Photo of Switch 2 Game Card IC below, courtesy of Spawn Wave. For Switch 1, Rohm Lapis (ローム) makes “MR20RG*” cards up to 16GB, therefore the “R20RG*” IC is most likely made by Rohm too. Apparently they are capable of making 64GB cards now.
Since Rohm forecasts the “sales of amusement to increase significantly” in FY2025 (ending 2026-03), it confirms that Rohm continues to be a Game Card supplier. Its share of production might have increased too (previously only Macronix could make cards >16GB).
Another Switch 2 Game Card, however, contains a different IC, marked “SRZ3YAS*”. It might not be made by Macronix either, because their Switch 1 cards are “MX23J*” or “MX23K*”. There were some unsubstantiated rumors linking Samsung to Switch 2 Game Card. Could “S” be a Samsung designation?
The facts that a) Rohm is making 64GB cards now, b) there might be a new card manufacturer, and c) 3rd party publishers are choosing the Game-Key Card over ROM card are all bad news to Macronix. When are we going to see a Switch 2 card made by them?
