The newly published patent for the Zapper & Scope SP exhibit in Nintendo Museum revealed that unlike the traditional light gun, the Zapper/Scope contains an IR camera point down (“imaging direction”) to detect the AR markers on the floor (marker board “MB”).

To prevent visitors from seeing the AR markers, the marker board is treated in a way that only IR cameras can see the patterns. As (not) shown in the photo below, it just looks like a normal floor.
