A new patent for the NSO Playtest Program has been published.
In a shared virtual space, if you encounter an objectionable object built by another user (image 1 below), you can report it and designate the region to be hidden from your view (image 2).
Not to impede the gameplay, you won’t be blocked from the hidden region and still can walk through it—but only your silhouette is shown (image 1 below). If out of morbid curiosity you want to see the naughty object again, you may move your camera view into the region to reveal its content (image 2).
These hiding designations are applied only to your local rendering of the shared virtual space. Other users continue seeing these regions as normal. However, a group of users can be set up to share designations; I believe it to be a parental control feature. Advantages of this invention include:
- Effective immediately without waiting for mods to review your report
- No need to leave; you may still traverse the space and continue gameplay
- Each user can have their own individual view without affecting others
- Nothing is altered or deleted
Note that the feature is in addition to reporting and moderating, not a replacement.
