[Reacting to the Switch 2 discounts on Woot] If Amazon (parent company of Woot) had even just an inkling of Switch 2 price increase, they wouldn’t have offered these discounts (image 1 below) but held on to the stock. Together with the digital game price drop in North America (img 2), and the LATAM exchange rate concession (img 3), it doesn’t seem that an NS2 price hike is impending.

Notice who else isn’t raising prices—Apple. Unlike Dell, Xiaomi, Sony, and other CE brands that are, Apple’s playbook is to “use the memory market chaos to their advantage—secure the chips, absorb the costs, and grab more market share”, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (who is not only an analyst but insider).

My interpretation of Nintendo’s Q3 Q&A is that they too will resist price increase and prioritize expanding installed base. After all, every crisis is also an opportunity.

P.S.: The unfolding oil shortage might force me to eat crow. The costs of plastic and shipping are soaring.
