Several mouse related Nintendo patents have been published, showcasing some unique gameplays and controls made possible by integrating dual mouse inputs and motion sensing in the Switch 2 Joy-Cons. I’ll share a few that are more interesting to me.

Patent WO2025099801 demonstrates that the Switch 2 mouse’s movements need to be corrected according to its orientation in order to navigate a 2D maze accurately.

Nintendo patent WO2025094395 describes how to utilize dual angular mouse controls to form a triangular area to engage enemies, or triangulate a shooting target.

Patent WO2025083780 repurposes the Joy-Con’s mouse sensor to detect finger positions. By combining gestural input with motion data and stick/button controls, an “unprecedented” gaming experience is born.

Since the Switch 2 Joy-Con can detect its adjacency to a surface (entering/leaving mouse mode), patent WO2025079215 describes gameplays this may facilitate, such as scooping goldfish or whacking moles.
