It’s been revealed that the Switch 2 features an AI sound processor for GameChat, made by MediaTek’s affiliate IntelliGo (意騰). Mr. Tsai, Chairman of MediaTek, disclosed this himself: “GameChat audio […] adopted the intelliGo solutions.” What is it and what does it do?

In 2024, customs data watchers became aware of an IG2200 IC being shipped to Hosiden Vietnam (Switch assembler). Later that year, leaked motherboard photos from China verified its inclusion. Only till recently, hacker hexkyz was able to ID it. There’s no publicly available documentation; IG1201 specs below for reference:

This deep neural network IC sits between the SoC and mic, cancels noises and echoes, and adjust speech volume per distance. The results are impressive, and it doesn’t require any SoC resources. (Some features on this slide may be unavailable on Switch 2.)

Although GameChat also supports Text-To-Speech and Speech-To-Text, I can confirm that IG2200 is not involved. According to IntelliGo’s IPO prospectus, it didn’t acquire the TTS/STT tech from Cyberon until Aug 2022, and the current ICs not yet have the capability.
