Disassembly of the HD Rumble 2 motor, custom made by Alps Alpine (image 1 below, 4Gamer), reveals two voice coils and four magnet (image 2, TechanaLye). In contrast, HD Rumble 1 has one voice coil and two magnets (image 3, Fomalhaut).
The enlarged surface of the magnet is notable, because it allows for multiple north and south poles in order to create a stronger vibration force (images below, Nintendo). The arrangement of voice coils was also changed to take advantage of that.
