How the latest tariffs may affect the Nintendo hardware products in the US:

  • China 30%
    • Switch 1, Switch 2, Joy-Con, and Alarmo by Foxconn Technology Co. (FTC/鴻準)
    • Pro Controller by Mitsumi (三美)
  • Vietnam 20%
    • Switch 1, Switch 2, and Joy-Con by Hosiden (ホシデン)
  • Cambodia 19%
    • Switch 1 and Pro Controller by MinebeaMitsumi (ミネベアミツミ)
  • Japan 15%
    • Game Card by MegaChips (メガチップス) and Rohm (ローム)

FTC’s parent company Hon Hai Group (a.k.a. Foxconn Group/鴻海) is building a new factory in Quang Ninh, Vietnam. It’s planned to be used by FTC to assemble 4 million units of Switch annually from 2027. So Nintendo may not see much relief from China tariff until then.

As for Hosiden, the company disclosed that they’re investing in automation of not only Switch 2 assembly but also for “older products”. It seems that Nintendo may allocate more Switch 1 production from Foxconn to Hosiden. In addition, their new Bắc Giang plant will be completed this year.
