The tiny hand in the press photo of Hello, Mario! app (image 1) reminds me of some Nintendo patents for a miniaturized gaming device. These patents depict a small handheld with less buttons, a built-in camera, and a Labo-like cardboard attachment (images 2-4).
At the time I believed that the R&D was intended for something like a Switch Micro. With the reveal of My Mario series, however, it seems possible that Nintendo is developing an edutainment device for small children to compete with iPads and other tablets.
