Knowledge-based discourse

The report’s byline includes Wu, Mochizuki, and Lee. Since there’s only one paragraph about gaming, it must be Mochizuki’s handiwork with his signature sloppiness.

  • AFAIK there’s no public data suggesting NS2 “drove storage card purchases”. It’s either his own conjecture or a private source. As a journalist he should’ve specified either way.
  • There’s no indication from his reports in recent years that Mochizuki had any sources inside Nintendo, but suppliers and 3rd party devs.
  • Suppliers aren’t privy to Nintendo’s pricing decisions, and can only guess from order inquiries and contract negotiations. However, it wouldn’t make as good a story if he’d truthfully written “suppliers speculated” instead of “people familiar with its plans said”.

For what it’s worth, I believe that Furukawa’s recent comments gave a strong signal that Nintendo isn’t inclined to raise the price in 2026.
