Knowledge-based discourse

I posted before that a Pennsylvanian credit union filed for a “SWITCH 2” trademark. In January it was approved for publication. As I expected, Nintendo did not file an opposition (possibly sensing a legal trap), so the trademark is officially allowed on March 24.

Since the application was filed on an intent-to-use (ITU) basis, Bessemer System FCU have 6 months to file a Statement of Use (SOU) to prove that they actually use the mark in commerce, or it will be abandoned. The latter is likely to happen if this was only an attempt of trademark squatting.
