The latest Bloomberg newsletter claims that Switch 2 is “currently selling […] at a loss” without providing any evidence. Its source is most likely Hideki Yasuda (Toyo Securities), who “estimated” a $160 loss per Japanese unit (i.e., $30 loss per US unit). Does that sound even remotely plausible? Not to mention that Yasuda is infamous for making outlandish assertions. Just a few examples:
- Software doesn’t move hardware
- PS5 wouldn’t sell in Japan because of white color (he stopped saying this after the Switch OLED Model came out)
- Before the Switch 2 reveal, he suggested that backward compatibility with Switch 1 would be a mistake
Yasuda also has a penchant for giving official Toyo Securities talks online with a relatively unknown VTuber who barely got any views. She wasn’t just there to MC, but they also had some light banter that sounds pre-planned. It’s extremely bizarre.

It seems likely that the Switch 2 hardware is under water in some markets, but certainly not universal or at the level suggested by Yasuda.
