How Switch 2 system manages audio input via the built-in mic and other devices:

  • There can be multiple inputs—console built-in mic, console audio jack, Pro Controller 2 audio jack, USB mic, etc.
  • The signal is amplified and then processed by an “adjuster” Nz1 (noise canceling, echo canceling, and auto gain control)
  • If the game has its own chat feature (e.g., Fortnite), the system provides it with adjusted mic input via Vs1
  • When the system chat (GameChat) is enabled, it receives adjusted mic input via Vs2
  • While Vs2 is on, Vs1 is silenced. You can’t use GameChat and Fortnite chat simultaneously
  • If the game needs mic input for non-chat features (e.g., karaoke), it receives adjusted mic input via Vs3
  • If the game needs unadjusted mic input, the system provides it via Vs4
  • If the game needs an independent mic input (e.g., a dedicated hardware accessory), it can use either Vs5 or Vs6

P.S.: The sound “adjuster” Nz1 is a neural network IC IntelliGo IG2200, which I covered here.
