Dr. Mario World Trademark Renewal Means Little

X post by Mike Odyssey: Nintendo just filed for a NEW/UPDATE Trademark for Dr. Mario World. A game released on mobile and discontinued by Nintendo. Could Nintendo be planning on porting Dr. Mario World to console for Switch 1 and 2? l really do hope so!

[Reacting to Mike Odyssey’s Dr. Mario World “porting” claim] Aside from some rare, unusual cases, trademark renewals aren’t news. What is Nintendo supposed to do—not renewing their trademarks? Note that Mike Odyssey wrote “NEW/UPDATE” instead of simply renewal. It’s crystal clear that he didn’t even bother to check the original application before tweeting.

One trademark is for "ROSALINA," which could potentially indicate Rosalina's first official game or simply serve as a means of protecting the trademark. The other trademark is for "Brain Age," a Nintendo DS game that could potentially lead to either the release of the Nintendo DS on the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) service or the development of a new Brain Age game. Based on the available evidence, I believe that the likelihood of the Nintendo DS being released on NSO this June is quite high.
X post by Mike Odyssey: Nintendo just brought back from the dead the Virtual Console name and is currently a pending trademark. Are these signs of the new administration’s plans? Are they planning on offering both NSO and Virtual Console for those who prefer to purchase their games individually? There would be no need for them to revive this since the Wii U eShop is closed and not coming back. If you ask me, I think it's a smart move. Maybe it comes in the form of NSO Selects, where you can buy individual games as long as you have the base NSO. This would also allow for many third-party devs to sell their older games on VC. Thoughts?
